Breathing Life into 19th Century American History
People make history. Life in the 1800s was not about textbooks, it was about people.
Life in the 1800s
That's why our recently created Living History Endowment is so important-because it allows people to tell their stories. For more than 20 years, Historic Arkansas Museum has engaged the imaginations of visitors through this interactive program that employs performers who breathe life into real people from 1800s Little Rock, letting people of all ages experience life in the 1800s.
Thousands of students visit our museum and meet Arkansas's past face-to-face. Each character that comes to life in our award-winning program has a story to share, a history to tell. They bring voice to the experiences of 19th-century mothers, fathers, sons and daughters-to slaves and slaveholders-to pioneers and immigrants-to city business owners and rural farmsteaders.
It's a personal way to learn 19th Century American History - from the people who made it.
Living History Endowment
We would like to see this program thrive and grow. In the past, we've received grants for the program, but grants come and go. The Living History Endowment was created to ensure the future of this beloved program.
Our goal is to reach $1 million earmarked for the Living History Endowment to provide enough annual income to grow the present Living History program and keep this program alive for generations of school children to come.
Give to the Living History Endowment and help us breathe life into history. Donate online or send earmarked donations to Historic Arkansas Museum Foundation, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock, AR 72201.
